Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Staff of Japan Self-Defence Forces discuss cooperation at sea
In Saint Petersburg, Russian Navy CINC Admiral Vladimir Korolyov met with Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, Japan Self-Defence Forces, Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano, says press center of RF Defence Ministry. The military brass met in Admiralty Building which houses Naval High Command.
At the meeting, the sides highlighted increased level of the Russian-Japanese cooperation, and readiness to discuss most topical issues concerning cooperation at sea. The sides agreed that it is necessary to focus on joint efforts to ensure maritime sescurity in Pacific Rim.
They also recalled that on July 10, 2018 there were the 18th SAREX Russia-Japan exercises.
“We regularly practise new elements in the course of this exercise, which allows us to increase the level of compatibility of forces during search and rescue operations at sea,” Admiral Vladimir Korolev said during talks with Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano.
During the day, according to the program of the visit, the Japanese military delegation will visit the Nakhimov Naval School and the corvette Boykiy.
