Vimpel Shipyard launches border patrol boat of Project 1496М1 built for FSB Border Guard Service
On 11 October 2018, Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Region based Vympel Shipbuilding Plant (Vimpel Shipyard, part of the Kalashnikov Concern) launched a border patrol boat of Project 1496М1 Lamantin (hull No 01410) for FSB Border Guard Service, the Company’s press center says.
It is the second upgraded boat of project 1496М1 in a series of five units intended for FSB Coast Guard.
Project 1496М1 was upgraded by Vympel’s Advanced Shipbuilding Department to meet the requirements of FSB Border Guard Service.
The upgraded Lamantin has improved technical characteristics and meets the requirements of all boats of this class. The ship features an optimized hull shape, higher speed and cargo carrying capacity, improved seaworthiness and crew accommodation comfort.
The boat is equipped with a firefighting system to help vessels in distress. Engines, generators and pumps are of Russian origin.
The boat’s main propulsion plant consists of three diesel geared unit designed and supplied by the Yaroslavl based engine plant.
The Lamantin will undergo sea and acceptance/delivery tests in the Black Sea.
The boat is intended for monitoring of compliance in internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Russian Federation, detention and protection of non-compliant vessels including high-speed boats; delivery of inspection teams, ensuring compliance with border control regime within and off the ports; transportation of cargo and personnel; port operations; providing assistance to vessels in distress; fighting fires on vessels and onshore facilities.
Boat’s class notation - КМ Ice3 R2 АUT3 of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
Key characteristics: full displacement – 119.55 t; LOA – 30.8 m; BOA – 6.7 m; draft – 2.0 m; speed at full displacement - 18 knots; cruising range at full displacement – 2,000; endurance - 20 days.
