Malaysia awards Evergreen Group chairman
Dr Chang Yung-Fa, founder and Chairman of the Evergreen Group, today became the first Taiwanese national to receive Malaysia’s second most senior federal award, the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM), in recognition of his invaluable contribution to economic cooperation between Taiwan and Malaysia. The award, which carries the title “Tan Sri”, was conferred in the Balairong Seri hall of Kuala Lumpur’s Istana Negara royal palace by His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong XIII Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah.
Prior to this latest accolade, Dr Chang was honoured with Malaysia’s Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN) award in 2000, giving him the title of “Datuk”, also in recognition of his commitment to the country’s economy. Outside Malaysia, Dr Chang was last year appointed a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in acknowledgment of his services to shipping and British economic interests and also received the Lifetime Achievement Award 2006 from leading international shipping daily newspaper Lloyd’s List.
