Admiral Gorshkov frigate of RF Navy's Northern Fleet makes business call to port of Colombo

On 3 April 2019, Admiral Gorshkov frigate, performing long cruise tasks in the Indian Ocean, made a business call to the port of Colombo, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, says press center of RF Defence Ministry. The Russian ship arrived in the island of Sri Lanka this morning and entered the territorial waters.

This business call is the first visit of the Northern Fleet ship to the main port and the largest city of Sri Lanka in the modern history of the Russian Navy.

During the stay in the port, the commander of the detachment Captain 1st Rank Vladislav Malakhovsky and the commander of the frigate captain 1st rank Igor Krokhmal will take part in a number of protocol events. Russian sailors will debark in the city of Colombo to explore the local attractions.

Earlier, frigate Admiral Gorshkov had made a three-day business call to the port of Djibouti of the same state in East Africa, near Horn of Africa.

Since leaving the main base of the Northern fleet – Severomorsk on February 26, the frigate has covered more than 9,000 nautical miles and performed several combat exercises in the Atlantic, Indian oceans and the Mediterranean sea.
