Keel-laying for Petrotrans Shipping’s first multi-purpose RSD59 dry cargo vessel
Shipyard OKA on July 30 2019 held a keel-laying ceremony for the first multipurpose 8144dwt dry cargo vessel, Project RSD59 (Hull No 5901). The ship was ordered by the State Leasing Transport Company (SLTC) for Petrotrans Shipping, the RSD59 series designer Marine Engineering Bureau said.
The construction of 15 vessels of RSD59 series is underway at Shipyard OKA. The first five will be delivered to Petrotrans and the next ten – to Astrol Shipping Company.
Overall, three shipyards (Krasnoe Sormovo, Nevsky and Okskaya Shipyard) were contracted to build 40 ships of Project RSD59. Eleven of them have already been built and the rest are at different stages of construciton.
The RSD59 series vessels are being built to Volgo-Don Max class and have the maximum possible dimensions to transit the Volga-Don Canal.
The RSD59 series vessels were designed for transportation of break bulk, bulk, container, timber, grain and oversize cargo, dangerous goods (Classes 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 IMDG Code and BC Code’s Appendix B in the Caspian Sea, in the Mediterranean, Black, Baltic, White, North Seas, including sailings around Europe and to the Irish Sea in winter season.
Class notation: КМ Ice2 R2 АUT1-ICS CONT (deck, cargo holds Nos.1.2) DG (bulk, pack). By displacement the vessels of RSD59 project are by far the largest of dry cargo vessels satisfying the dimensions of the Volga-Don Canal.
