Icebreaker Novorossiysk escorts Silver Explorer along the Northern Sea Route

The icebreaker Novorossiysk provides icebreaking support for the Silver Explorer luxury cruise ship during her voyage along the Northern Sea Route. The icebreaker began escort of the cruise vessel on August 14, 2019 in the Bering Strait.

Rosmorport provides icebreaking support while the ship is sailing in Russian Arctic waters. In line with the agreement with Silversea Cruises Ltd, icebreaking support will last two weeks and end at Solitude Island in the Kara Sea.

Last year, six icebreakers of FSUE Rosmorport participated in ensuring the safety of navigation and icebreaking assistance in the Northern Sea Route. In 2019, the Novorossiysk was deployed to support shipping in the eastern sector of the Arctic and Chukotka districts during summer navigation from July 25 to October 31.

The Silver Explorer, homeported in Nassau, Bahamas, was designed for navigation in the most remote corners of the world, the first luxury expedition cruise ship to receive icebreaking support in the Northern Sea Route this summer.
