Lead chemical tanker of Project 00216М named PortNews after our agency
Among the events of the Neva-2019 exhibition in Saint-Petersburg was the naming ceremony for the lead chemical tanker of Project 00216М being built by Astrakhan Shipbuilding Production Association (ASPO, a company of USC) for Volgotrans LLC under the leasing programme of Mashpromleasing. The tanker has been named PortNews after our agency.
“Our extensive work in the Caspian region has been driven to a great extent by state measures supporting shipbuilding and shipping as well as targeted support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and regional authorities. A significant role in our activities is played by industry focused media which every day, together with us, meticulously and competently, make it clear for customers and state authorities that domestic shipbuilding needs development. It appears to be the reason why an industry-specific media organization is an integral participant of shipbuilding ceremonies including our today’s event”, USC President Aleksey Rakhmanov said at the ceremony.
“Under its professional competence, our company carries our year-round operation of tankers. We have a full grasp of domestic water transport status. Therefore, when entering into a contract on construction of a new USC design tanker, we tried to calculate and mitigate all possible risks. It was significant for us to ensure the highest possible transparency and publicity of this project. That is why, coming back to the traditions of the past, when an RS class general cargo carrier Izvestiya named after the Izvestiya newspaper was working between 1978 and 2000, we decided to make our project engaged with a popular industry related media. Thus, the lead chemical tanker of the new series was named after PortNews, the leading information & analytical agency that has celebrated its 15th anniversary this year”, said Rodion Svetlichnov, General Director of Volgotrans LLC.
Nadezhda Malysheva, Development Director of PortNews Media Group, will be the godmother of the ship.
One year ago, on 4 September 2018, Astrakhan Shipbuilding Production Association (ASPO, a company of United Shipbuilding Corporation) held a keel-laying ceremony for two chemical tankers of Project 00216М developed by Vympel design bureau. The ships are being built for Russian shipping company Volgotrans under the programme for preferential leasing offered by USC company Mashpromleasing.
