Admiral Makarov SUMIS confirmed unique competence in dynamic positioning operators training

Admiral Makarov SUMIS confirmed the unique competence in dynamic positioning operators training, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping says in a press release.

The Nautical Institute (NI) issued a Certificate of   re   accreditation  for training courses for  boatmasters-o perators of dynamic positioning systems (DP)   to Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping.

The reaccreditation of the DP operators  training  is a result of  two stages audit conducted by a group of NI experts in the  Makarov Training Centre of the University.  Thus, Admiral Makarov SUMIS  will continue its internationally recognized training for crew members of supply vessels, semi-submersible drilling rigs, and other types of offshore vessels equipped with DP systems according to  approve d  programs  DP Induction  and  DP Simulator.

Currently, the numer of vessels using DP equipment is rapidly growing in the Russian and world fleets. Dynamic positioning systems (DPS) – a means of holding the vessel without anchor at a certain point – are widely used in marine engineering-geological, drilling, pipe-laying works, when loading tankers with oil products from floating structures, sea ice-resistant stationary platforms to control the position of the vessel. There are many manufacturers of such systems – Navis, Kongsberg, Rolls-Royce, etc., but the principles of ship management for all SDP are the same.

Since 2007, Makarov Training Centre has been the only internationally accredited training center for DP vessels in Russia. 2900 skippers have been trained and received certificates of  «Makarovka» and the Nautical Institute, which gives them the right to work in international offshore projects, and shipowners to expand the range of applications of their fleet.

DP classes are conducted on a modern high-tech simultor  base by experienced instructors who are acting chief mates and captains of ships equipped with a dynamic positioning system. All instructors have been trained in accordance with NI standards, their high qualification is recognized by the administration of this institute.

In order to meet the industry’s  growing demands, in 2019 Admiral Makarov SUMIS aquired a modern Transas NtPRO -5000 Offshore/DP sumilator in addition to its inhouse simulators manufactured by Kongsberg (K-POS, class C) and Navis (NavDP-4000, class B). The new simulator provides a realistic  imitation of  the control of self-lifting drilling rigs, semi-submersible drilling rigs, anchorage vessel during towing, mooring operations, using a dynamic positioning system (where applicable) both separately for each type of object, and in the conditions of joint actions of the platform personnel and the anchorage team. The software provides processing (adding, setting navigation movement data) at least 10 own models of active vessels, controlled from the workplace of the student) and at least 10  target vessels, controlled from the  instructor’s station. Mathematical models of active vessels meet the real characteristics of prototype vessels, including inertial-braking characteristics and maneuverability, taking into account the impact on the vessel of wind, waves, shallow water, as well as other forces and factors.

Makarov Training Centre is the only permanent training center for DP operators in Russia accredited by T he Nautical Institute, and is also one of the few in the world having the ability to train the operation of real dynamic positioning equipment from various world manufacturers.
