Atomflot’s Icebreaker bound for the Gulf of Finland

The nuclear-powered icebreaker "50 Years of Victory" set out for the Gulf of Finland on Friday, January 27, 2012 and is expected to arrive at its destination within 7 days. The icebreaker will operate under a 100-day charter agreement between Atomflot and Rosmorport, escorting merchant ships in the area, the vessel owner FSUE Atomflot said.

From 2008 FSUE Atomflot (Rosatomflot) has been a member of state-run Rosatom Corporation. On August 28, 2008 the management of nuclear-powered icebreaking fleet was transferred to FSUE Atomflot. Now, Atomflot's fleet of icebreakers comprises 4 nuclear icebreakers with 75,000-shp dual-reactor plant, and 2 icebreakers with 40,000-shp single-reactor plant. The company also provides icebreaking pilotage along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and to freezing Russian ports, container shipping by the nuclear-powered lighter carrier Sevmorput, etc.
