NPCC to build Chukotka deep water port

Northern Pacific Coal Company plans to construct a deep water port in the Arinay lagoon in the framework of the project of Amaamskoye coal deposit located in the Chukotka region within the Bering coalfield, the Government of the Chukotka Autonomous District said.

The company also plans to create transport / logistics infrastructure, including a railway and highway with total length of about 120 km and upgrade a local airport based near the village of Bering.

 
On 24-28 January Northern Pacific Coal Company presented a project of industrial development of Amaamskoye coal deposits.

Since 2007, Northern Pacific Coal Company jointly with it partner Tigers Realm Coal Limited (TRC) has conducted a number of field and lab studies, which proved the estimated reserves of Amaamskoye coal deposit will ensure for the next 20 years annual production at about 4 million tons of coking coal.

The company believes the coal production at Amaamskoye field could start in the period of 2017-2020. Total investment in the project is estimated at Rub 45 billion.

Amaamskoye coal deposit belongs to a group of coal deposits in the southern Chukotka forming the Bering coalfield with estimated resources of 4.5 billion tons of coal. China’s Shenhua coal mining corporation another bidder for the Bering coals is soon going to step up development of Bukhta Ugolnaya field with proven reserves of 660 million tons.

Tigers Realm Coal Limited is a company that realizes a large-scale development projects. In addition to Chukotka, Tigers Realm Coal is preparing commercial development of large coal deposits in Colombia.

Chukotka coal industry is currently represented by two enterprises: JSC "Ugolnaya Mine" (Anadyr field) and Open Society " Nagornaya Mine " (Ugolnaya Bay field). Over the past 8 months, the Chukotka-based companies have extracted 272,700 tons of coal, primarily for the regional needs.
