Throughput of Liepaja (Latvia) port up 26% in Jan 08, y-o-y, to 417,900 tonnes

In January 2008, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) increased cargo handling by 25.7%, year-on-year, to 417,900 tonnes, the company reports according to Gudok.RU referring to Interfax. Transshipment of loose bulk cargo grew by 23.5% - to 192,800 tonnes, general cargo – by 6.3% to 123,800 tonnes, liquid bulk cargo – by 68.8% to 101,400 tonnes. In the reported period the port handled 148 vessels (+28.7%). The port of Liepaja ranks the third Latvian port in terms of cargo handling. In 2007, the port’s throughput grew by 0.9%, year-on-year to 4.039 million tonnes.
