In January 2008, Port Vanino OJSC handled 531,800 tonnes of cargo (+4%, year-on-year). Transshipment of export cargo amounted to 219,600 tonnes (-26.9%). The decrease should be attributed to a decrease of timber transshipment (-50.9%, year-on-year). In the same period export of coal and aluminum grew by 18% (to 38,900 tonnes) and 12.3% (to 62,500 tonnes) respectively. Transshipment of import cargo grew over 2.5 times to 138,400 tonnes (+158.3%, year-on-year) including 125,200 tonnes of alumina (+140.3%). Transshipment of coastal trade cargo totaled 28,700 tonnes (+3.6). The ferries of Vanino-Kholmsk coastal trade line transported 145,000 tonnes of cargo (+11.9%). In January 2008, Port Vanino OJSC handled 136 vessels (including 63 ferries) and 7,368 wagons.
