During January 2008 2,78 million tons of cargo was handled in Ventspils port (+25,9 percent), and during January 2007- 2,21 million tons. There grew handling volumes of liquid cargo (+35,6 percent or by 1,8 million tons), bulk and dry bulk cargo (+14,6 percent or by 0,8 million tons). There decreased handling volumes of general cargo (-4,4 percent or by 172 thousand tons less). According to the type of cargo the biggest growth was observed in handling oil products (+47,9 percent) and coal (+16,0 percent) in Ventspils port. Handling volumes of the main transit cargo were the following - oil products and bulk fertilizers: during January 2008 1,6 million tons of oil products was handled and 303 thousand tons of bulk fertilizers.
During January 2008 12 thousand tons of containerized cargo was handled in Ventspils port (+20,0 percent, in comparison with the same period 2007).
