Odense shipyard to build two ro-ro vessels for Pacific Basin Shipping Limited

Odense Steel Shipyard has signed up with Hong Kong based Pacific Basin Shipping Limited for two ro-ro vessels (plus two options) for delivery in the years from 2009 to 2011 for a total sum of USD 375 million. Pacific Basin Shipping has not been operating ro-ro vessels before, but recons that they will add more business to the operations on the Asian coasts. The company is a massive bulk operator with a fleet of 94 units of which 33 are handysize bulkcarriers are owned in the group while 61 units are on charter. Two of the units are former Torm handy-size bulkcarriers, which were purchased in 2006. In connection with that the company also managed to “take” Klaus Nyborg from Torm to a position as Deputy Chief Executive Officer. The two ro-ro will like the four already under construction in Odense, be of the Flensburg-design.
