Cargo transit via Ukraine up 1.7 times to 386.9 million tonnes in 2007

In 2007, cargo transit via Ukraine grew over 1.7 times, year-on-year, to 386.9 million tonnes. Transit accounted for 42.9% of total cargo turnover in Ukraine while a year ago it was equal to only 25.8%, RZD-Partner reports.

Maximal growth was demonstrated in the sector of motor transportation: +178% to 4.49 million tonnes. The minimal growth rates were those of the marine transit: +7.1% to 2.69 million tonnes. The majority of transit cargo was traditionally transported by railway - 99.88 million tones which grew by 33.1%, year-on-year (in 2006 it grew by only 2.5%). Pipeline transit grew by 94.7% to 279.8 million tonnes (+12.4% in 2006).
