Kaliningrad regional customs to start operation from April 1, 2008

Kaliningrad regional customs created through integration of Bagrationovskaya, Kaliningrad and Neman customs will start operation from April 1, 2008, the media cooperation department of the North-Western Customs reports.

When forming the new apparatus for Kaliningrad regional customs the authorities took into account the permanent growth of goods and transport annually cleared in the region, large number of foreign trade participants (over 10,000), as well as remoteness of customs points from Kaliningrad (up to 140 kilometers).

The competence of Kaliningrad regional customs covers the Kaliningrad region, territorial waters and inland waters of the RF. The customs will include 19 points. The staff of the new customs will consist of 1791 persons. 

Thus, from 01.04.2008 the customs authorities consist of regional customs, operational customs and rear customs station of Kaliningrad.

The reform is to be continued this year in Karelia and the Pskov region.

From the moment the three customs were merged into one the supervision is to be the function the North-West Customs (St. Petersburg).
