Port of HaminaKotka throughput in Jan-Feb’2019 grew by 14.3% Y-o-Y to 2.94 million tonnes

In January-February 2019, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 2.94 million tonnes of cargo (+14.3% %, year-on-year).  According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 24.1% to 2.22 million tonnes including 206,320 tonnes of paper (+4.9%), 281,390 tonnes of cellulose (+22.6%), 313,030 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-11.5%) and 370,430 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+28.3%).

Transshipment of import cargo fell by 8% to 718,940 tonnes including 179,790 tonnes of general cargo (-5.9%), 97,150 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (-31.5%) and 164,070 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-9%).

In the reporting period, transit traffic fell by 2.3% to 706,300 tonnes, coastal traffic surged 4.8 times to 214,900 tonnes. 

Transshipment of containers declined by 0.7% to 112,850 TEUs. 

Vessel traffic grew by 7.3% to 469 units.

The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2018, the port handled 16.17 mln t of cargo.
