Grain terminal with annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes to be built in port of Azov

A grain terminal with annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes is to be built in the port of Azov. According to the press center of the Rostov Region Government, a tripartite agreement has been signed between the regional government, PAO Sberbank and Azov Sea Terminal at the “Golden Autumn” agricultural exhibition of Russia.

The document has been signed today, 9 October 2019, by Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region Victor Goncharov, Azov Sea Terminal General Director Yury Kurilov and Sberbank Senior Vice-President Vladimir Sitnov.

According to Victor Goncharov, the project is focused on construction of a multi-profile facility for transshipment of grain and general cargo with annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes that can be built up to 2 million per year.

Investments into the project are estimated at almost RUB 2.6 billion. The terminal is to become fully operational in 2024. The project is to generate 150 new jobs.

The facility is to transship grain and general cargo from road transport to seaborne transport.

“Under the project we are set to increase the depth at the berths to 4-5 meters so that the could accommodate both river-going and sea-going ships, - said Yury Kurilov, General Director of Azov Sea Terminal. – The project foresees handling of ships with capacity of up to 5,000 tonnes.”

The project is to be financed by the capital of its initiator with raising of a bank loan.
