(Mikhail Glazkov, First Deputy Head of Oktyabrskaya Railway - About railway approaches to north-western ports )
- In 2017, electrification was completed at the last section of the Mga-Gatchina-Luzhskaya approach to the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad Region). Replacement of the diesel locomotive traction with electric traction led this section almost double the capacity – to 90 mln t per year. This is the capacity required today by consignees and consigners. The first train with electric traction came to Luzhskaya station in October 2017.
Also, the past year saw the arrangement of regular trains without changing locomotives and locomotive crews between Babayevo and Luzhskaya (482 km). …Now it takes 12 hours less as compared with the year of 2016. Besides, development of railway approaches to Vysotsk and Primorsk (Vyborg-Primorsk-Yermilovo) is underway.
