St. Petersburg hosts 3rd Festival of Icebreakers-2016

The Third Festival of Icebreakers was held May 2-3, 2016 in St. Petersburg. Operating icebreakers of Rosmorport's North-Western basin branch moored at the Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment and the Promenade des Anglais Embankment, among them: St. Petersburg, Mudyug, Ivan Kruzenshtern and Kapitan Sorokin. St. Petersburg homeported icebreaking tug Nevskaya Zastava and the museum ship – icebreaker Krasin also took part in the event.

The Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment turned into an outdoor exhibition with pavilions and booths displaying materials from dedicated naval museums and institutions, from naval colleges and Arctic regions of the country.

The main objective of the festival was to promote domestic icebreaking fleet and shipbuilding sector, the profession of polar explorer, history of past and current development of the Arctic, the image of Russia as a great sea power, and St. Petersburg as the sea capital.
