Ice-class tanker for Russia's Pacific Fleet laid down in Vladivostok

The Mikhail Barskov tanker, designed for operation in the Arctic, has been laid down at the Vladivostok shipyard, the spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Eastern Military District said Tuesday.

"For the first time in its history, the plant has begun construction of a vessel with a displacement of over 1,000 tons. To tackle this task, workers have been retrained, workshops have been modernized, new construction technologies will be applied," Capt. 1st Rank Roman Martov said.

He added that this is the first in a series of two ships to be built in Vladivostok for the Pacific Fleet and it is scheduled to be delivered in November 2017.

Project 03182 small marine tankers are designed as multi-purpose ice-class vessels for the transportation of liquid and dry cargo and for performing rescue operations. The tanker has a displacement of 3,500 tons and a length of over 260 feet. Its independent operational range can reach up to 1,500 miles.
