The Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin has launched the construction of the Ust-Luga universal trading terminal (LUGAPORT project) in the port of Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region, Russia.

The ceremony took place within the framework of the XIV International Exhibition ‘Transport of Russia’, which is taking place these days in Moscow. During the videoconference with the port of Ust-Luga, Mikhail Mishustin gave a command to the Director of the Ust-Luga Universal Trade Terminal Alexei Zharkov to start importing construction materials to the LUGAPORT site. A column of dump trucks delivered the first consignment of cargo to begin the implementation of a new stage of construction of the first multi-profile transport and logistics complex in the port of Ust-Luga.

Konstantin Goncharov, President of the Novotrans Group of Companies, reported to the Head of Government on the progress of the project. The holding started construction of a universal terminal in the port of Ust-Luga in August 2019. In June this year, the stage of creating artificial land plots for the terminal facilities with an area of 47 hectares was completed. In just 10 months, a large amount of work was carried out on the installation of sheet piling, the construction of bank protection, the creation of embankment dams, and the filling of the territory formation maps with sand.

“The LUGAPORT terminal is being built at an accelerated pace using the most modern technologies. Today we started construction of the terminal facilities. I want to assure you that by the end of 2024, as provided by the schedule, LUGAPORT will be commissioned. It will be one of the most hi-tech terminals. It will provide Russian exporters with transhipment capacities, which are currently offered in the complex only by the Baltic ports. The Ust-Luga port, taking into account our project, will receive an increase of 24 million t of new cargo per year,” said Konstantin Goncharov.

The Prime Minister gave a positive assessment to the development of the LUGAPORT project and wished good luck to the Novotrans Group of Companies in its implementation.
