Port of Napier boosts profit by 15 per cent
The Port of Napier has increased its profit from last year by 15 percent. The port is one of only three in New Zealand which the world's largest shipping company, Maersk, will visit weekly with its largest container ships. Chairman Jim Scotland says despite the past year being one of the most challenging in the recent history of international shipping, the company has made a profit of just under $7 million. He says the port handled a record throughput of more than 140,000 containers. Mr Scotland says this represented growth of almost 9 percent, compared with the New Zealand-wide average of about 3 percent.
