Bollore to operate African terminal
Bolloré Africa Logistics said it won a 25-year concession to operate the container terminal under construction at the port of Cotonou in Benin. The French-owned company won the bidding contest in an international tender involving two other port logistics operators. Bolloré Africa Logistics said it aims to increase container traffic in Cotonou from the current 312,000 20-foot equivalent units in 2008 to 1 million TEUs by 2030.
Its planned investment program covers development of the South Terminal with yard surfacing and handling equipment and construction of dry land ports at Parakou, Sèmè and Dosso, which is designed to boost trade heading for Niger, North Nigeria and Lagos.
Bolloré said the investment will turn Cotonou into one of the most important transit ports in the Gulf of Guinea, so that it acts as a springboard for the neighboring countries of Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali and Chad; it is also expected to boost Cotonou’s position as the second port of Lagos, in order to meet the expected growth in Nigeria.
