Stevedoring at Iranian ports up 12.5%
In the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21-November 21), some 73 million tons of oil and non-oil goods were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports, showing a 12.5% increase compared to the corresponding period last year.
The volume consisted of 41 million tons of non-oil commodities. This included the stevedoring of more than one million cargo containers, which corroborated 12% growth compared to the same period last year.
According to the country’s Ports and Shipping Organization (PSO), the cost of shipping from Iran to Southeast Asia has dropped to $100 per TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units, which is the number of 20-foot containers that a vessel can carry) from last year’s $500.
