An official ceremony of commissioning and hoisting of Russian Navy's flag was held today, Dec. 25 on a salvage ship Igor Belousov in St. Petersburg at Admiralty Shipyards, the shipyard press office told IAA PortNews.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Navy Commander in charge of armaments Vice Admiral Viktor Bursuk.
Ocean salvage ship "Igor Belousov" of Project 21300 for Russia's MoD was laid down in December 2005. The ship was designed at Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau for search and rescue of the crews of stricken submarines, lying on the seabed or on the surface, for crew life support. The vessel is equipped with a package of life-saving appliances, including Pantera Plus, a multirole platform using a wide range of mounted equipment such as cable cutters, circular saws, washout devices, etc. It can also automatically maintain the assigned depth and has a hydroacoustic positioning system, cameras with advanced low-light capabilities. Thanks to powerful engines, it is highly maneuverable and effective. It can detect underwater objects and work at depths of 1000m. The vessel has deep-sea diving and rescue system for emergency rescue of submarine crew, for diving at depths of 450 m.
