In January 2016, Odessa Commercial Sea Port handled 1,641,900 t of cargo (-19.2%, year-on-year), says the press center of Odessa commercial sea port.
Transshipment of dry cargo fell 3.1 %, liquid bulk cargo – down 67.7%.
The port authorities attribute the fall of oil product transshipment to political and foreign policy factors, weather conditions and shifting of Russian cargo flows to Russian seaports.
The fall of dry cargo transshipment is attributed to global trends.
In January 2016, the port handled 490,600 t of grain (-3.2 %, year-on-year) and 442,200 t of ferrous metal and non-ferrous metal (-11.1 %).
In the reported period, container throughput totaled 417,600 t (+0.3 %), or 29,793 TEUs (- 3%).
Odessa Commercial Sea Port operates in one of the largest ports of the Black-Azov Sea Basin. Technical facilities of the port allow handling of more than 14 million tonnes of dry cargoes and 24 million tonnes of liquid cargoes annually. The port’s passenger terminal accepts vessels of up to 300 meters in length. In 2014, throughput of Odessa Commercial Sea Port climbed by 6.1%, year-on-year, to 24.5 mln tonnes.
