Damen's 74-metre Amels 242 sets sail on first sea trials

The 74-meter long luxury superyacht built at Vlissingen shipyard has started shipbuilder's sea trials. “Even the chilly Dutch North Sea looks rather nice when graced by the gorgeous lines of the new 74-metre AMELS 242, out for sea trials near the AMELS yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands,” Damen said in a press release.

With her long streamlined looks created by renowned British designer Tim Heywood, this hotly anticipated superyacht will be delivered on time in April to her Owner, represented by Moran Yacht & Ship.

The first of three AMELS 242 yachts under construction at the yard, the AMELS 242 was the centre of attention when she emerged at the yard at the end of December last year.

Amels is now recognised as one of the most successful superyacht builders in Holland. Currently there are nine Limited Editions projects under construction in Vlissingen, and two large refit projects. With an average growth in annual turnover of 10% since 2005, Amels has seen the Limited Editions concept go from strength to strength, with the range now spanning five elegant Tim Heywood designs from 55 to 83 metres. All have been delivered on or ahead of contract. Amels is the exclusive yacht-building member of the Dutch DAMEN Shipyards Group, established in 1927 and now the largest shipyard in the Netherlands. DAMEN operates 40 shipyards throughout the world and employs over 8,000 people. In 2012 the Group delivered over 150 vessels, and generated a turnover of €1.7 billion.
