    The State Council approves establishment of Zhoushan River-Sea Intermodal Transport Service Center

    On April 27th, the State Council announced “Ratification of State Council on Approving Establishment of Zhoushan River-sea Intermodal Transport Service Center”on Chinese Government Network and approved in principle to establish Zhoushan River-sea Intermodal Transport Service Center.

    Relying on Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Zhoushan River-sea Intermodal Transport Service Center will speed up development of river-sea intermodal transport, improve railway, inner river and other cargo distribution and transportation systems and strengthen the function for modern shipping logistics service.

    The project will enhance the capacity for storage, processing and transaction of bulk commodities, build an international first class comprehensive hub port for river-sea intermodal transport, shipping service base and national base of storage, processing and transaction of bulk commodities and found a demonstrative zone integrated by reform and development of ports in China.

    According to the ratification, the scope of Zhoushan River-sea Intermodal Service Center include the whole new district of Zhoushan Archipelago and Beilun, Zhenhai, Jiangdong, Jiangbei District of Ningbo city with total land area of about 2,500 square kilometers and sea area of about 21,000 square kilometers.

    The ratification pointed out that Zhoushan River-sea Intermodal Transport Service Center boasted a unique geographic advantage and rich deep-water port resources with obvious superiority in river-sea intermodal transport service and favorable foundation for transshipment, storage and transaction of bulk commodities.

    Establishment of Zhoushan River-sea Intermodal Transport Service Center is a key measure to implement and carry out the relevant decision and deployment of the party central committee and the State Council and is good to intensify resource integration, accelerate development of river-sea intermodal transport.

    It enhances the transport efficiency of Yangtze River Golden Waterway, strengthen national strategic materials safety guarantee capacity and is of great significance to implementing the development strategy of Yangtze River Economic Belt, strengthening the connection and interaction of 21st century Maritime Silk Road and advancing the construction of the maritime power.

    Zhejiang provincial people’s government shall effectively strengthen the organization and leading for construction of Zhoushan River-sea Intermodal Transport Service Center, clarify division of task, fulfill job responsibility, establish and improve the mechanism for investment construction and operation management and advance the overall construction of Zhoushan River-sea Intermodal Transport Service Center while guaranteeing ecological environment security.

    Zhoushan city and Ningbo City shall give full play of its subjective role and earnestly organize implementation of the construction.
