Russian Chamber of Shipping congratulates Novoship with the fiftieth anniversary!
Russian Chamber of Shipping has the honor to congratulate Novorossiysk Shipping Company- “Novoship” with the 50th Anniversary of its establishment!
The tanker shipping company “Novoship” was set up on January 20, 1967, by special Order No 12 of the USSR Minister of the Merchant Marine Mr. V. Bakayev. That historic decision has played a significant role in strengthening Russia's position as a great Maritime Power. Half a century of Novorossiysk Shipping Company existence has brought quite a number of very important events and achievements into the history of the Soviet and Russian Merchant Marine.
In a relatively short period of time Novorossiysk Shipping Company had become the USSR major shipping company carrying oil and oil products, and the city of Novorossiysk had become a capital of the country’s tanker fleet, since the largest and the most modern oil fleet of the Soviet Union was registered and managed at that Hero- City. This contributed to shaping of the city’s maritime profile which included among other things the construction of the Palace of culture of seamen, hospital for seafarers, development of the coastal infrastructure, intensified construction of residential areas for maritime specialists. In 1975 the Novorossiysk Higher Engineering Maritime College (now Ushakov Maritime State University) was established.
The shipping company has become a leader not only in terms of its fleet size but also in terms of its cargo traffic, effectively competing with foreign carriers.
“Novoship” entered the third millennium with a strong, modern and, what is more important, young fleet: Aframax ships like Krasnodar, product carriers like Elbrus, chemical carriers like Stella and an extensive portfolio of newbuildings.
Today, Novoship is a part of Sovcomflot Group. Consolidation of the leading shipping assets of Russia has allowed the Group take the lead in the world’s tanker shipping.
