    Tall ship Mir moored at MSCC Bronka (photo)

    On 4 June 2017, training sailship Mir moored at Berth No 1 of MSCC Bronka (Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka, Big Port St. Petersburg) to get prepared for the regatta, says Fenix LLC, operator of MSCC Bronka.

    Apart from supplying and bunkering, rotation of the cadets of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping took place. 

    On July 3, tall ship Mir returned to Saint-Petersburg having completed the first part of the annual training voyage. This year, the ship took the sea on April 27. 132 cadets of Makarov University have passed their sailing practice over 2 months and a half.

    The cadets have taken part in different maritime festivals in Europe including Hamburg’s Port Birthday and Sail Bremerhaven in Germany, Aalborg Regatta in Denmark and Sail Den Helder in the Netherlands.

    More Makarov University cadets and Saint-Petersburg City Palace of Youth Creativity students are to take the sea on July 7.

    The key event of the training season’s second part will be the Baltic Regatta 2017 organized by Sail Training International. The route of this annual regatta is unique every year. This time the races will be held in the Baltic Sea: Kotka (Finland) – Tallinn (Estonia) – Turku (Finland) – Klaipeda (Lithuania) – Szczecin (Poland) between July 13 and August 8.

    Besides, the Mir will participate in one of Europe’s largest festivals – Hansa Sail (Germany) scheduled for August 10-13.

    The voyage of the training ship is expected to end on October 28 in Saint-Petersburg, her homeport.

    The tall ship Mir was built in 1987 in Gdansk (Poland). From 2014, the sailing ship is owned by FSUE Rosmorport. The Mir is considered to be the most high-speed sailing ship in the world. It proves its status by the numerous victories, winning more than 20 races in her history. 

    MSCC Bronka (Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka) is a new deepwater terminal at the port of Saint-Petersburg. The project is implemented through private-public partnership. Investments from the federal budget (RUB 17 bln) allowed for building an access canal and water area with a depth of 14.4 m as well as a transport junction with a direct connection of Bronka to the ring road. Construction of coastal infrastructure through project financing with Fenix LLC as a private investor began in 2011. In December 2015 it was completed and the first phase of the project was put into operation.

    The capacity of Bronka’s Phase 1 is 1.45 million TEUs and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes. In the future the MSCC Bronka expansion will help increase the facility's container throughput to 1.9 million TEUs. Port Bronka is able to accommodate Post-Panamax containerships and the ferries of Finnstar class. The port territory comprises a logistics center and a State Border checkpoint. In April 2017, MSCC Bronka was acknowledged as a strategic investment project of Saint-Petersburg, and its initiator Fenix LLC – as a strategic investor.
