Zvezda Shipyard kicks off hull construction for Rosneft’s first serial ice class PSV

Primorsky Krai, Russia based Shipbuilding Complex Zvezda (Zvezda Shipyard) has started fabrication of the hull of the first multipurpose Platform Supply Vessel with ice class began. Works are performed in the shipyard’s open shipbuilding, outfitting dock, Rosneft said.

The PSV keel has been laid down with six prefabricated sections assembly, pipes installation, welding, outfitting of the hull being underway.

Previous reports said first order was placed with Zvezda Shipyard by oil giant Rosneft as anchor customer. The contracts included construction of a series of four multipurpose PSVs, with launching of lead vessel scheduled for 2019.

The Ice Class PSV was designed for operations across the globe in different environment, for supply of offshore drilling platforms, to provide icebreaking assistance, towing vessels and offshore facilities.

Workers also have built temporary mobile covers to ensure round-the clock construction process in the 12ha outfitting dock in adverse weather conditions. The outfitting dock is also equipped with a 5-tonne overhead crane for lifting sections.

    General characteristics: LOA: 106 m, Beam: 22 m, Max ice draft - 8 m, DP : 11 m, Crew: 49.

Keel-laying ceremony for four serial PSVs (Katerina Velikaya, St Mary, Vladimir Monomakh and Alexander Nevsky) and commissioning of the heavy outfitting dock were held on September 8, 2017 in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Rosneft has entered into an exclusive agreement with Zvezda to place all of its orders for new marine equipment and newbuilds with the Russian Far Eastern shipbuilding complex. To date Zvezda Shipyard has booked orders for 26 vessels, four multipurpose ice class PSV; ten Aframax tankers; ten 42000dwt Arctic shuttle tankers and one 69000dwt shuttle tanker.

Vladimir Putin had ordered to create on the basis of the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Centre a shipbuilding and industrial cluster that could be able to build ships and marine equipment for the development of offshore fields. The project of a Zvezda super shipyard, the first shipyard in Russia for large-tonnage shipbuilding, is being implemented by a consortium of private investors led by Rosneft. The shipbuilding program of Zvezda is focused on oil and gas companies that produce, process, store and transport crude oil and natural gas.

Zvezda Shipyard will focus on vessels with a displacement of up to 350,000 tonnes, components for offshore drilling platforms, ice class vessels, commercial cargo ships, specialized vessels and other types of marine equipment of any complexity, characteristics and designation, including new for Russia equipment. The Zvezda shipbuilding complex project is scheduled for completion for 2024. The shipyard will be able to manufacture steel products of more than 330 000 tonnes a year. Zvezda Shipyard applies fundamentally new technological solutions that will allow the complex to become one of the most modern in the world shipbuilding yard.
