Nexans wins umbilical contract from McDermott for BP’s greater Tortue Ahmeyim project

McDermott Marine Construction Limited has awarded a contract to Nexans for the supply of approximately 100 km subsea umbilicals and accessories for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim natural gas project offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

Under the terms of the contract, Nexans will provide management, procurement, engineering, manufacturing and testing activities for the umbilicals and ancillary hardware.

The electrical cables and fibre optics will be manufactured at Nexans Norway plant in Rognan and the umbilicals will be developed, manufactured and tested at Nexans Norway specialized plant in Halden. The delivery will take place in 2021.

The Tortue field is located approximately 120 km offshore the coast of Mauritania and Senegal straddling the maritime border, in 2,850 m water depth. The subsea system includes a total of 4 wells at first gas, clustered at one drill centre. The production system ties back approximately 70 km to a spread moored FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) unit positioned at the shelf edge in 100-120 m water depth. The FPSO undertakes gas pre-treatment before exporting the gas 35 km to a nearshore hub and terminal facility where the gas is liquefied and offloaded to LNG carriers.
