Oldendorff Carriers announces its membership in the Getting to Zero Coalition

Oldendorff Carriers has announced its membership in the Getting to Zero Coalition, the company said in its release. The Coalition is an alliance of more than 100 likeminded companies and organisations within the maritime sphere, supported by key governments and IGOs.

All members of the Coalition are committed to achieving the vision of decarbonizing in shipping and meeting the IMO targets. The Getting to Zero Coalition was launched on the main stage at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York on Monday 23rd September 2019.

The objective of the Coalition is to make the ambitious target of reducing international shipping’s Green House Gas (GHG) emissions by at least 50% by 2050. The coalition is committed to getting commercially viable deep sea zero emission vessels into operation by 2030.

The Getting to Zero Coalition is a partnership between the Global Maritime Forum, the Friends of Ocean Action and the World Economic Forum.

The Getting to Zero Coalition brings together decision-makers from across the shipping value chain with key stakeholders from the energy sector as well as from governments and IGOs. Knowledge partners such as UCL Energy Institute, Environmental Defence Fund, Sustainable Shipping Initiative and the Energy Transitions Commission will support the work.

Following the recent COP25 Climate Change Conference in Madrid, Oldendorff Carriers recognizes the urgency to stop climate change.

Over 95% of the Oldendorff fleet, and most of our chartered vessels, are eco type vessels. Oldendorff Carriers has also recently signed a research agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA), which will investigate disruptive improvements in ship design and propulsion to achieve the IMO 2030/50 requirements.
