ESL Shipping teams up with John Nurminen Foundation to fund Baltic Sea protection in 2026

ESL Shipping and its parent company Aspo have entered a partnership with the John Nurminen Foundation to support the protection of the Baltic Sea throughout 2026, according to ESL Shipping.

The cooperation ties the shipping group’s Baltic operations directly to environmental protection efforts, with a focus on reducing the environmental load on the sea and supporting ongoing conservation projects in the region.

The foundation said the Baltic Sea is being affected by eutrophication and climate change at a faster pace than the world’s oceans, underlining the need for immediate action.

“Our small and shallow sea is suffering from the effects of eutrophication and climate change faster than the world’s oceans, which is why swift and effective action is needed. We thank Aspo for supporting our work to protect the sea. These donations make it possible for us to continue our vital work,” said Annamari Arrakoski-Engardt, chief executive of the John Nurminen Foundation.

ESL Shipping Ltd is a Finnish shipping company focused on dry bulk transportation in the Baltic Sea region. Its operations include year-round cargo services and ship-to-ship handling, supported by a fleet designed for operation in ice conditions.

Aspo Plc is an industrial group that owns and develops businesses in logistics, chemicals and industrial solutions. The company follows a long-term ownership model with an emphasis on sustainable business development.

The John Nurminen Foundation is an independent Finnish foundation dedicated to protecting the Baltic Sea and preserving its cultural heritage through targeted environmental projects.
