Wärtsilä Corporation said its unit Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has secured a contract to supply cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for two 51,350 m³ ammonia-fuelled liquid ammonia carriers, according to a company press release.
The vessels will be built at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co. Ltd. in China for a joint venture between Navigator Gas and Amon Maritime.
The order was booked in the first quarter of 2026. Each vessel will be capable of transporting liquefied petroleum gas in addition to ammonia.
The Wärtsilä systems will support ammonia as fuel across both two-stroke and four-stroke engines, enabling dual-fuel operations.
“As the shipping industry transitions to decarbonising operations, ammonia is emerging as a carbon free alternative marine fuel,” said Hans Jakob Buvarp, Sales Manager at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions. “This order further strengthens our position and is yet another proof point of executing our strategy focused on shaping the decarbonisation of marine.”
Equipment deliveries to the yard are scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.
