WinGD has completed Factory Acceptance Testing in China for an X52DF-A-1.0 ammonia-fuelled two-stroke engine built by Yuchai Marine Power Co., Ltd for a 25,000-cbm LPG/ammonia carrier ordered by Tianjin Southwest Maritime, according to WinGD.
The 52-bore engine passed testing in April 2026 in the presence of China Classification Society. It will be installed on the first vessel in a four-ship LPG/ammonia carrier series under construction at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited.
The test followed Type Approval Testing and the first Factory Acceptance Testing of WinGD’s ammonia-fuelled engine platform in South Korea earlier this year. WinGD said the test showed stable engine performance, significantly lower NOx emissions in ammonia operation than conventional fuels and minimal N₂O emissions.
“The successful completion of Factory Acceptance Testing in China provides further validation of our X-DF-A platform across key performance and safety parameters,” said Peter Krähenbühl, WinGD’s vice president product centre.
WinGD said its X-DF-A orderbook now stands at more than 30 engines across gas and bulk carriers, tankers and container vessels. The platform uses high-pressure ammonia injection with a targeted pilot fuel dose of around 5% at full load.
WinGD is a Swiss marine power company headquartered in Winterthur, developing two-stroke low-speed marine engines, hybridisation, digital optimisation and lifecycle support systems.
Yuchai Marine Power Co., Ltd is a Chinese marine engine builder. Tianjin Southwest Maritime is the shipowner behind the four-vessel LPG/ammonia carrier series.
CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited is a Chinese shipbuilding company constructing the vessels.
China Classification Society is a classification society involved in the test attendance.
