G2 Ocean will add six 65,400-dwt open-hatch gantry crane newbuildings ordered by Grieg Maritime Group and Seaspan at New Dayang Shipbuilding, with the ships due to enter its pool from 2029, according to G2 Ocean.
Grieg Maritime Group will own two vessels, while Seaspan will own four that will be bareboat-chartered to Gearbulk before joining the G2 Ocean pool.
Each ship will have eight open-hatch cargo holds without overhangs, about 79,400 cbm of cargo volume, two gantry cranes and tween decks.
The vessels will be capable of adaptation for alternative fuels including ammonia or methanol.
The ships will add mid-sized gantry-craned tonnage between G2 Ocean’s 72,000-dwt vessels and its 36,000-dwt to 55,000-dwt ships. They follow a separate programme for 10 82,300-dwt vessels scheduled to join the fleet between 2026 and 2029.
“Through investments in both newbuildings and our existing fleet, G2 Ocean is strengthening its long-term service offering, providing cargo owners with safe, flexible, reliable and sustainable cargo solutions,” chief executive Arthur English said.
G2 Ocean AS is a Bergen-based operator of open-hatch and conventional bulk tonnage.
Grieg Maritime Group is a Norwegian maritime group active in shipowning, ship management and maritime services.
Seaspan is a vessel owner and maritime asset manager. Gearbulk is an operator of open-hatch and semi-open-hatch vessels.
New Dayang Shipbuilding is a Chinese yard in Yangzhou.
