Vitol Bunkers and agribusiness Olam Agri have completed Singapore’s first bunkering operation using very low sulphur fuel oil co-processed with cashew nutshell liquid, according to Olam Agri.
The 82,000-dwt, Liberian-flagged Kamsarmax Scion Mathilda received 246.5 tonnes of fuel in Singapore, comprising 212 tonnes of conventional VLSFO and 34.5 tonnes of VLSFO co-processed with cashew nutshell liquid, or CNSL.
Vitol Bunkers supplied the fuel for Olam Agri’s ocean freight business. The 2024-built vessel used the fuel on a voyage from Caofeidian, China, to Rotterdam, followed by a ballast leg to Barcarena, Brazil.
Scion Mathilda consumed 1,354 tonnes of conventional VLSFO, 101 tonnes of marine gasoil and 34.1 tonnes of the co-processed fuel during the voyage.
The companies said the co-processed VLSFO had a greenhouse-gas intensity of 2.02 grams of CO2 equivalent per megajoule and reduced emissions by at least 120 tonnes of CO2 equivalent compared with the same amount of conventional VLSFO.
The fuel required no changes to vessel operations, additional onboard handling or fuel treatment.
CNSL is a by-product of cashew processing. The co-processed fuel met the RMG380 VLSFO grade and had the same chemical composition and quality specifications as conventional fuel. Scion Mathilda, IMO 1023956, was built in China in 2024.
Singapore-headquartered Olam Agri is a food, feed and fibre agribusiness operating in more than 30 countries. It handled 49m tonnes of products and generated revenue of $28.7bn in 2025.
Vitol Bunkers is part of Vitol’s marine fuels business. Vitol is a global energy and commodities company with more than 40 offices. It delivered 605m tonnes of oil equivalent in 2025, including an average of 8m barrels per day of crude oil and petroleum products, and reported turnover of $343bn.
