Chinese state-owned liner COSCO Shipping Lines’ 20,000-TEU COSCO SHIPPING LIBRA has taken on 5,493 tonnes of green methanol at Ningbo-Zhoushan port, setting a Zhejiang record for the amount supplied to a single international-trading vessel, according to Ningbo Customs.
The ship-to-ship operation was completed on 23 August while the containership was alongside in the Meishan port area. Meishan Customs supervised the bunkering. Methanol bunker vessel Chimbusco Green Energy 85 delivered the fuel while cargo handling continued alongside. The official figure for the stem was rounded to about 5,500 tonnes.
The latest operation marks a sharp increase from previous methanol stems involving COSCO SHIPPING LIBRA. Seven road tankers supplied 230 tonnes on 29 September 2025, followed by a 503-tonne ship-to-ship green methanol bunkering from Daqing 268 on 22 April 2026.
Chimbusco Green Energy 85 entered regular service in Ningbo on 31 July. The 119.88-metre vessel is classed by China Classification Society and is fitted with corrosion-resistant duplex stainless-steel cargo tanks.
The Zhejiang mark is not a world record. The 13,000-TEU Malta-flagged CMA CGM OSMIUM took on 8,016 tonnes of Chinese-produced biomass methanol at Shanghai on 15-16 August, setting a global record for a single biomass-methanol bunkering operation.
COSCO SHIPPING LIBRA was converted from conventional propulsion to methanol dual-fuel operation in 2025, including conversion of both its main and auxiliary engines.
Shanghai-headquartered COSCO Shipping Lines is a container shipping company within China COSCO Shipping Corp. It had 456 containerships with about 2.4m TEU of capacity at the end of May 2026.
China Marine Bunker (PetroChina), known as CHIMBUSCO, is a Chinese marine fuel supplier. Chimbusco Green Energy 85 was developed in cooperation with Ningbo-based Hengxing Shipping Group.
