Varandei port opens for foreign ships
Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov has signed a government ordinance regarding the Varandei sea port, the government said according to Interfax.
The document states that the name "Varandei" is being given to a sea port located in the Nenets Autonomous District on the Barents sea coast near the Varandei area by request of Nenets local legislators. The boundaries of the Varandei port are being drawn.
A proposal by the Russian Transport Ministry to open the Varandei sea port to foreign vessels and turn it into a permanent sea cargo terminal at the Russian national border has been approved. The proposal was coordinated with the Federal Security Service, the Interior
Ministry, the Defense Ministry, the Health and Social Development Ministry, the gricultural Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the Economic Development Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the Federal Transport Network, the Russian Border Authority and the Nenets Autonomous District's administration.
