In January-May, 2008, marine and river fleet of Ukraine transported 7.6 million tonnes of cargo (-7.4%, year-on-year), Ukraine’s State Statistics Committee reports.
In the reported period, river transport companies decreased transportation by 9.6%, year-on-year; marine transport companies – by 4.4%. Foreign transportation by sea fell by 2.3%, by river – by 13.6%. The volume of cargo handled by commercial and fishing ports and berths (both sea and river) grew by 6.6%, year-on-year, to 74.5 million tonnes.
Handling of export cargo grew by 4.2%, import – by 38.8%, transit – by 2.1%, local cargo – by 3.7%. The number of handled vessels increased by 12.2% to 9,000 units.
