The Russian Ministry of Defense is set to purchase eight multipurpose and eight strategic nuclear-powered submarines, the Chief of General Staff, Army Gen. Nikolay Makarov said on Wednesday.
"Presently, we have plans to build eight submarines (eight - Yasen-class and eight - Borei-class)," RIA Novosti quoted Gen. Makarov as saying.
Earlier, the Defense Ministry had planned the procurement of 20 submarines, 35 corvettes, 15 frigates and to commission eight Borei-class nuclear-powered Bulava ballistic missile carrying submarines.
