RheinCargo (Ports in Düsseldorf, Köln and Neuss) saw a significant increase in some sectors of its port business and long-distance rail services in past months. A total of 29.7 million tonnes of goods were moved at the company’s seven locations in 2013 (2012: 27.7 million tonnes), the company said in its press release.
Waterside handling rose from 17.8 million tonnes to 19.1 million tonnes. In the intermodal sector, RheinCargo's ports moved 1.21 million units (TEU), thereby maintaining 2012’s favorable level. The transport and logistics company hauled around 24 million tonnes by rail last year (2012: 21.1 million tonnes). Mineral oil accounted for approximately 7.1 million tonnes (on a par with 2012) and coal for 5.7 million tonnes 2012: 2 million tonnes) of the total tonnage.
Total throughput in the ports in Cologne was a litttle less under the record of last year; Neuss/Düsseldorf had a top year with 15,7 million tonnes total throughput and almost 10 million tonnes of waterside cargo handling.
