Port of Kozmino purchases up-to-date fire-fighting foam tower

Transneft Kozmino Port, LLC, is ready to transfer a unique special vehicle into service to the 91st fire station,  which ensures fire safety of the port’s facilities, the Company says in its press release. The new telescopic foam tower is designed for fire-fighting at a high altitude and at a long distance.

The VEMA 37 TWT foam tower will be assigned to the Oil Depot of the port of Kozmino, which tank farm includes ten tanks with a total capacity of 500 thous. cu. m. of oil. Unique characteristics of the vehicle: a good cross-country ability and maneuvering performance, ability to fight a fire at a distance of up to 100 meters and at a height of over 30 meters – which is comparable to the height of an 11-stored building – are essential to ensure fire safety of oil storage tanks with a capacity of 50,000 cu. m. Unimpeded access to 50 thous. cu. m. tanks is provided due to special platforms – on both sides of each tanks, the arrangement of which is launched by the specialists of the oil port.

Under the control of the fire-fighting service of the port of Kozmino, the foam tower passed all the necessary tests which were attended by the representative of the Finnish manufacturing works. The invited specialist conducted training of the fire station drivers. Due to a high level of automation, the foam tower may be operated by two persons, the remote control allowing to operate it at a distance of up to 100 meters.

It is expected that one more foam tower will be put into service in 2017, designed for ensuring fire safety at the railway rack platform of Transneft Kozmino Port, LLC.
