Seaports of the Azov Sea Basin handled 87.8 mln t of cargo in 2017, up 24.7%, year-on-year, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Sergey Safonichev, head of Azov Sea Ports Administration, as saying at the open meeting of the basin Committee in Rostov-on-Don.
According to him, the port of Taganrog handled 3 mln t vs 2.3 mln t in 2016. The port of Rostov-on-Don achieved a record high result throughout its history having handled 21.6 mln t (vs 19.4 mln t in 2016). Seaport of Azov handled 11.1 mln t (vs 9.7 mln t in 2016), port Kavkaz – 44.3 mln t (vs 31.6 mln t in 2016), oirt Yeisk – 4.6 mln t (vs 4.3 mln t in 2016), port Temryuk – slightly more than 3 mln t (vs 2.9 mln t in 2016).
Sergey Safonichev says the growth was mainly driven by grain transshipment: in 2017, seaports of ASPA handled 31.6 mln t of grain versus 19.6 mln t handled in 2016.
In this segment, port Kavkaz took the leading position having handled 14.4 mln t of grain. It is followed by Rostov-on-Don with 6.6 mln t, Azov with 6.1 mln t, Yeisk with over 2.5 mln t, Taganrog with 1.5 mln t and Temryuk with 446,000 t.
