In January-March 2018, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 8,223,200 tonnes of cargo (-11.6%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment fell by 8.8% to 3,189,600 tonnes. Transshipment of oil products dropped by 43.3% to 1,052,100 tonnes, wood pellets – fell by 3.5% to 214,100 tonnes while transshipment of ore surged almost 2-fold to 99,800 tonnes.
The Port’s container throughput grew by 3.4% to 114,114 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 17.7% to 158,301 including 3,316 cruise passengers (+84.7%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2017, the port handled 33,674,700 tonnes of cargo.
