Krasnoye Sormovo to build one more series of RSD59 dry cargo carries for Pola Rise

Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard (a company of United Shipbuilding Corporation) says it has signed yet another trilateral contract with State Transport Leasing Company and shipping company Pola Rise on construction of the second series of four dry cargo carriers of Project RSD59.

All the four ships are to be built and delivered to the customer in 2019. The first ship is to be launched in January 2019 with the delivery expected by the beginning of the next navigation season. Under the new contract, the customer and the recipient are STLC and Pola Rise accordingly. 

According to Mikhail Pershin, Acting General Director of Krasnoye Sormovo, the new series “will be superior to the previous one”.

“When we were building the fifth dry cargo carrier of the first series the design was improved considerably. An extensive work has been performed with the designer and the customer. In the result, sea deadweight was increased by more than 600 tonnes”, he said.

Improvements had been initiated by the customer. Deadweight increase became possible with increased draft and structural changes introduced in the ship bow design. 

The series of five RSD59 ships built for Pola Rise was completed on 15 October 2018. The ships were laid down in autumn 2017. The Pola Makaria, Pola Sofia, Pola Filofeya, Pola Feodosia  and Pola Fiva are already in operation.  
RSD59 ships of Volgo-Don Max class have two cargo holds and the maximum dimensions to sail along the Volga-Don canal.

The vessel is designed for transportation of general, containerized cargo, timber, grain, oversize cargo and dangerous goods of B Class in R2 navigation area with waves up to 3% and standing off a place of shelter within 100 miles (distance between shelters should not exceed 200 miles), inland waterways of Russia (with some restrictions).

Key particulars of the ship: LOA – 141.0 m; Breadth – 16.98 m; Depth – 6 m; River/Sea DWT – 5,269/8,093 m; Cargo holds capacity – 11,292 m; Number of holds – two, River/Sea draft – 3.6/4.706 m, Endurance - 20/12 days. 

Class notation: КМ Ice2 R2 АUT1-ICS CONT (deck, cargo holds Nos.1.2) DG (bulk, pack).

Project RSD59 designer is Marine Engineering Bureau – Design SPb. Working design document was developed by Volga-Caspian Design Bureau.
