Russia’s MARINET OKs the autonomous concept of IQBoat

MariNet Working Group of the National Technological Initiative based in Russia (NTI MARINET) has approved the project of autonomous recreational small boats system IQBoat, the PortNews IAA correspondent reported from the group meeting.

The IQBoat project is intended for creation of a system of several recreational vessels capable of autonomously sailing along specified routes and mooring remotely controlled from an onshore dispatching office. The concept is designed for operation in enclosed body of water.
The start of sales is scheduled for 2020. The cost of an autonomous package is estimated at RUB 10 million.

MARINET involves a wide range of organizations providing advanced technologies for the maritime industry – from the leading corporations and universities to startup companies and research teams. Currently it joins several hundreds representatives from technology companies, leading universities, research and scientific centers, development institutions, business associations, ministries and government agencies. MARINET provides acceleration and financial support of projects, a legal framework improvement aimed at implementation of the new technologies as well as support for the establishment of cooperation in the Russian and international markets.

MARINET Roadmap approved on October 16 2016 by Presidium of the Presidential Council for Economic Modernization and Innovative Development, includes development and implementation of activities in the following priority areas:
– Digital Navigation (e-Navigation)
– Technology for ocean resources development
– Innovative shipbuilding
– Human resources development
– Improvement of the legal framework and regulations
