Construction of a deep-water container terminal in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky recently announced by Primorsky Multipurpose Reloading Complex LLC will begin in 2024, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Dmitry Korostelev, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Kamchatka Territory, as saying at the 9th Far East Russia-Korea Forum (June 5, Vladivostok).
According to the official, the strategy for the development of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky port foresees the construction of a cargo hub with annual capacity of 160 million tonnes.
“As part of this idea, there are five projects on construction of new ports in Kamchatka including the above-mentioned deep-water container terminal and LNG transshipment terminal (Phase 1 - 2022) that will let Kamchatka become a vital part of international transport routes between Europe, Asia and America”, emphasized Dmitry Korostelev.
Container transportation by the Northern Sea Route is planned between Primorsk and Kamchatka Territory involving large container carriers of Arctic class. The Arctic container line will allow for a competition with shipping via the Suez Canal, attract investments in NSR infrastructure and generate additional 2,000 jobs.
